Today, while in Blantyre I visited FES, a company dealing with agriculture machinery among others to see girls with a Tevet background in action but also to learn and discuss with the industry stakeholders of what’s needed to engage,Motivate and inspire more girls into these trades. I was so excited to meet Beatrice Chiumia.Beatrice is a professional technician for Cummins, UD95, Perkins, Sisu and Deutz engines. In 2010 she emerged the first female to qualify as a professional Cummins technician in Sub Saharan.Together with the team from Ministry of Labour we also visited Trailer Manufacturing Group where I met Margaret Kotokwa. Margaret is an expert in building trailer breaking systems and fabrication. Margaret also helped design the safety emergency braking system that is now used in most tankers and trailers moving across the borders and within. It is impressive and very inspiring to see that women can be experts in a Male dominated field. It is therefore my plea to girls out there that it is possible and you too can be an expert in any trade.
